How to find a job through networking

On the 14th of March I attended a HR Conference regarding “El networking de referencias para encontrar empleo: ¿ya lo tienes en cuenta?” = Networking, how to find a job.

The Moderator was Rosaura Alastruey, an expert in professional networking and one of the most genuine persons I have ever met.

She invited 4 HR professionals:

  • Marta Torras – HR Director at Primagas
  • Leticia Palacio – Human Resources Director & Senior Global HR Business Partner at RealPage
  • Ana León: Selección, Formación y Desarrollo at Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial.
  • Elodie Guerin: Global Talent Acquisition program manager at Hewlett Packard Enterprise

They presented their internal reference program, which gave an indispensable value for their companies. They confirmed that 30% of their hiring comes from internal recommendations, which is more or less the same percentage that I had at SELLBYTEL Group, where we had a complex referral program with economic benefits.

They have all agreed that the referral system decreases the hiring costs, sets up better expectations for the new employees, has a positive impact on faster integration and the most important impact is on employee retention.

Rosaura shared with us statistics made by LinkedIn studies, which states that 46% of the people in Spain have been hired through social media professional networking.
